Candle Care
🕯️
Taking good care of your candles helps them last longer, burn cleaner, and look as beautiful as the day you bought them.
Here’s how to keep your Jade Candles performing their best — from first light to final flame.
✂️ 1. Trim the Wick Before Every Burn
Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to about ¼ inch (6mm).
This helps:
-
Prevent soot and smoke (the soot itself will smudge the color, but it isn't harmful if it is in your wax!)
-
Keep the flame steady
-
Ensure an even, slow burn
Pro tip: Use wick trimmers or small scissors, and remove any debris from the wax surface before lighting.
🔥 2. Let the Top Layer Melt Evenly
On your first burn, allow the entire top layer of wax to melt from edge to edge — this prevents “tunneling”.
For most candles, this takes about 1–2 hours per inch of diameter.
💧 3. Understanding Dye Sweat (and Why It’s Normal)
If you notice small beads of colored oil or wax on the surface, that’s called dye sweat — and it’s completely normal!
It can happen when candles are exposed to heat, sunlight, or humidity.
To fix it:
-
Gently blot the surface with a soft cloth or paper towel.
-
Store candles in a cool, dry place (see storage below).
-
Avoid direct sunlight or leaving them near heat sources.
Or risk it:
- The dyes make your play beautiful! If they sweat too much, you risk the wax becoming less vibrant or developing white "blooms" of colorlessness.
♻️ 4. Melting or Reusing Excess Wax
When your candle has burned down to about ½ inch of wax left, stop using the wick.
To safely reuse or recycle the leftover wax:
-
Scoop or peel excess wax around the tunneled area while it is warm.
-
Place it in a microwave-safe container.
-
Heat in short 20–30 second bursts until melted — do not overheat.
-
Pour into a new mold, wax warmer, or use as wax melts for fragrance. You can also pour the wax directly from the microwave once it cools to the right temperature!
⚠️ Safety Note: Never microwave a candle with any remaining wick inside.
🧊 5. Candle Storage Tips
Proper storage keeps your candles fresh and color-rich.
-
Store in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight or moisture.
-
Avoid stacking candles or leaving them in warm rooms (like bathrooms or cars).
🌿 6. General Safety Reminders
-
Always burn on a heat-safe surface, away from drafts or flammable items.
-
Never leave a candle unattended.
-
Keep out of reach of children and pets.
-
Allow candles to cool completely before handling or moving.
